Cintiq, Day 1

Life drawing classes dried up a little while ago, and work has been invading my spare time.  Ignoring the money-wise portion of my brain, I purchased myself an early Christmas present – a Cintiq 12WX.  What is it about buying a new piece of equipment that makes you want to tidy up your workspace and arrange your dishevelled bookshelf of art books, CDs and  unlabeled discs?  It’s as if I feel like my new Cintiq deserves better than that.  A few sketches to get the ball moving.  Day 1!

Artrage!

I splashed out and bought a copy of the new Artrage digital painting software.
This was painted in the trial version, so the resolution isn’t quite high enough to print.  Painted from a recent life drawing sketch.

Robot #1

Drawn from a photo of a retro robot toy.  This fella had “2002″ printed across his chest – somehow it didn’t make it into my sketch.
Drawn on cardboard (not a Photoshop trick this time) scanned and coloured in Gimp.

Hand Sketch

Sketched directly into MyPaint using a 6×8 Wacom.  Right hand drawing the left, afterwhich I took the sketch in two separate directions.

Dark Thoughts

I have recently discovered some different digital painting tools and was just messing about and playing with brushes when this came together.  Background texture is just stock, but there are some cool brush effects and pencil tools that make drawing on the Wacom a pleasure.  The random “dark thoughts” were generated using a free tool [...]
